For whatever the reason we all have enemies. Even the kindest and most loving person in the world our Lord Jesus who was the Son of God had enemies! No matter why we do God assures us if we put our trust in Him then our enemies will not prevail over us (Psalm 41:9-11) 9 Yea, mine own familiar friend, in whom I trusted, which did eat of my bread, hath lifted up his heel against me. 10 But thou, O LORD, be merciful unto me, and raise me up, that I may requite them. 11 By this I know that thou favourest me, because mine enemy doth not triumph over me.
At times we see God uses people to fight against His enemies as we see with Jeremiah. He was chose to go against the cities of judah when they rebelled God by their wickedness and for burning incense unto other gods and God was with Him (Jeremiah 1:16-19).
When we do see the mighty hand of God step in on our behalf to free us from those who fight against us, we are not suppose to rejoice for this displeases Him (Proverbs 24:17-20) 17 Rejoice not when thine enemy falleth, and let not thine heart be glad when he stumbleth: 18 Lest the LORD see it, and it displease him, and he turn away his wrath from him. 19 Fret not thyself because of evil men, neither be thou envious at the wicked; 20 For there shall be no reward to the evil man; the candle of the wicked shall be put out.
Deliver me, O LORD, from mine enemies: I flee unto thee to hide me. Teach me to do thy will; for thou art my God: thy spirit is good; lead me into the land of uprightness. Quicken me, O LORD, for thy name’s sake: for thy righteousness’ sake bring my soul out of trouble. And of thy mercy cut off mine enemies, and destroy all them that afflict my soul: for I am thy servant. (Psalm 143:9-12).
Thank you for this encouraging word. It is comforting to know that the enemies will not prevail against us.
Yes ! Beverley it does give us comfort there is not one enemy that has power over a child of God. Stay strong in His grace.
