Why The Fear Of God Is Needful

We know what it was like as we were growing up to have a healthy fear of our parents if we did something wrong we knew for sure discipline was right around the corner. God loves his children the same way and wants them to fear and reverence him which will cause us to prosper in this life. (Hebrews 12:9-11) Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live? For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness. Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.

The fear of God is very needful in the life of the believer as without any regard for God the wicked individual has his days shortened! (Ecclesiastes 8:13) But it shall not be well with the wicked, neither shall he prolong his days; which are as a shadow; because he feareth not before God. (Psalm 55:23). But thou, O God, shalt bring them down into the pit of destruction: bloody and deceitful men shall not live out half their days; but I will trust in thee.

How many people throughout their lives fear other people? when we should be fearing God the one who is head of all life on this earth. (Isaiah 8:13) Sanctify the Lord of hosts himself; and let him be your fear, and let him be your dread.

The fear of the Lord tendeth to life: and he that hath it shall abide satisfied; he shall not be visited with evil.(Proverbs 19:23).

  1. “Fear” sounds like a bad thing, but someone once told me that to “fear” the Lord (or your parents, etc.) means to “respect” them. I had an awesome dad who loved me, but I also feared (respected) him because I knew if I did something bad he would, out of love, discipline me. My heavenly Father, of course, does the same. He loves us enough to discipline us. This kind of “fear” of God is a good thing. I agree that the fear of the God is needful.

    • Yes Mary I totally agree that fear of our parents is definitely out of respect for their authority over our life for the good! Without their discipline we would not be on the right path for life and with God. Blessings Always.
