Where will you be spending eternity?

 There has always been the debate of whether or not both heaven and hell exist, fortunately for us scripture clears up any doubt we may have by teaching us both do exist.

 In the story of Lazarus and the rich man we see Lazarus in the bosom of Abraham while Lazarus is in the torment of hell. ( Luke 16:22-31) And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham’s bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried; And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame. But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented. And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence. Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father’s house: For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment. Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them. And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent. And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead

 We can be assured heaven exists as we read in Genesis that from the very beginning of creation God created heaven! (Genesis 1:1,8) In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day.

 Now that we have established both heaven and hell exist we can further read of what behaviour it takes for us to enter either destination. When the rich young man asked Jesus what he must do to enter heaven Jesus reply applies to any one of us. We are given the answer of what it takes to inherit heaven. ( Matthew 19:16-23) And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life? And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments. He saith unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Honour thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. The young man saith unto him, All these things have I kept from my youth up: what lack I yet? Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me. But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions. Then said Jesus unto his disciples, Verily I say unto you, That a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven.

 It is our choice in this life to strive for heaven or hell by the way we live, and the following scripture outlines what takes us away from inheriting heaven therefore we know what it is we have to do to inherit eternity! ( 1 Corinthians 6:9-11) Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind,  Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.

  1. Everyone has an appointment with death and will spend eternity in Heaven or Hell. Where are you going to spend eternity? Everyone dies are The Bible is clear when it comes to where we spend eternity and HOW we get there: Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him. (John 3:36)
