Salt And Light

From the very beginning of creation God accepted an animal sacrifice from the people as an atonement for sin, but after sending His Son who became our sacrifice then we that do His will are considered a sweet savour unto Him. Salt always enhances the flavor of what it is put on, and when we are covered by the blood of the lamb we re as a sweet savour unto the Lord! (2 Corinthians 2:14-17)  Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place.  For we are unto God a sweet savour of Christ, in them that are saved, and in them that perish:  To the one we are the savour of death unto death; and to the other the savour of life unto life. And who is sufficient for these things?  For we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God: but as of sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ….. (Ezekiel 20:40-41).

To do what is pleasing in the sight of God causes a sweet scent to Him, so does scripture tell us what happens if one is rebellious or angers God? It is written it is as smoke in His nose and we know how unpleasant that would be! (Isaiah 65:1-5). I am sought of them that asked not for me; I am found of them that sought me not: I said, Behold me, behold me, unto a nation that was not called by my name.  I have spread out my hands all the day unto a rebellious people, which walketh in a way that was not good, after their own thoughts;  A people that provoketh me to anger continually to my face; that sacrificeth in gardens, and burneth incense upon altars of brick;  Which remain among the graves, and lodge in the monuments, which eat swine’s flesh, and broth of abominable things is in their vessels;  Which say, Stand by thyself, come not near to me; for I am holier than thou. These are a smoke in my nose, a fire that burneth all the day.

As Christians we are known as the salt of the earth, a light and candle which should not be hid under a bushel. Salt preserves and our life is kept in Christ till the day of redemption. (Matthew 5:13-16). Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.  Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.  Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

  2. As a gardener for the last 35 years, I’ve learned to look at truth and light like unto salt and pepper and the making of pickles. Salt does the preserving and pepper spices them up a bit. Too little salt is useless and too much pepper will make one sneeze and blow out the candle. LOLGB+
