Not Of The World

They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. (John 17:16).

If there was a way of knowing we are truly in Christ and not of the world, it would be the persecution and hatred we are shown for speaking of Christ! The moment we repent and come to the Lord we are instantly different from the way we used to live, for we have chose the way, the truth and the life found only in Christ over the world and it‘s disobedient ways! (Philippians 3:18-21) (For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ: Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.) For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.

To serve Christ means our faith is in line with the word of God, and not in line with the worlds values. The promises of God we come to rely on through faith is to believe more in the unseen as though they are, for by God’s grace this is how we view the miraculous by the hand of the one we are drawn by. For Jesus has said no one can come unto Him unless his Father draws them. (John 6:44,45) No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day. And it is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me.

It’s sounds odd to people when we say we don’t do as the world does, but it can be easily described in Jesus own words as He says He prays for those who His Father has given Him, but does not pray for the world. (John 17:8-10) For I have given unto them the words which thou gavest me, and they have received them, and have known surely that I came out from thee, and they have believed that thou didst send me. I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me; for they are thine. And all mine are thine, and thine are mine; and I am glorified in them.

The following passage may seem as very strong words to us, yet they are scripture and teaches us the importance of not to be of the world! (James 4:1-4) From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members? Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not. Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts. Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.

And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues. (Revelation 18:4).

  1. “To serve Christ means our faith is in line with the word of God, and not in line with the worlds values.” A precious word. It is not the teaching we hold but the life we live which reveals those who are of the faith of God. It is through the power of the Word that our faith is inspired so how can our faith be contrary to the Word which inspires it? Not that we have arrived but the Word is the hope of our faith and faith is our assurances of His Word becoming true within us.

Blessings to you and your family.
