There are clearly two kinds of loves which are separate of each other, and that is the love of God verses the love of the world. Scripture teaches us there is a difference of those who are in Christ verses those who are not. The worlds love is a selfish love which loves itself, while the love of God separates us when we are not of the world and its ways! (John 15:19) If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.
We live in a world that does not recognize the love of God that is so pure He cannot even look upon that which is evil (Habakkuk 1:13) Thou art of purer eyes than to behold evil, and canst not look on iniquity: wherefore lookest thou upon them that deal treacherously, and holdest thy tongue when the wicked devoureth the man that is more righteous than he?
The love of the world can look at another that is in need and pass by them as seen in the story of the good samaritan where even a priest would not stop to help! Our Lord teaches us that all are our neighbor‘s and that we are to be merciful ( Luke 10:29-37) But he, willing to justify himself, said unto Jesus, And who is my neighbour? And Jesus answering said, A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, which stripped him of his raiment, and wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead. And by chance there came down a certain priest that way: and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. And likewise a Levite, when he was at the place, came and looked on him, and passed by on the other side. But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion on him, And went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him. And on the morrow when he departed, he took out two pence, and gave them to the host, and said unto him, Take care of him; and whatsoever thou spendest more, when I come again, I will repay thee. Which now of these three, thinkest thou, was neighbour unto him that fell among the thieves? And he said, He that shewed mercy on him. Then said Jesus unto him, Go, and do thou likewise. (Zechariah 8:17),(Romans 13:10).
It is written there is no greater love than for one to lay down their life for a friend, and we are to not to just say we will help while neglecting to do so (1 John 3:16-18) Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. But whoso hath this world’s good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him? My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.
We would like to think the love of God within us would draw others closer, but our Lord knew just as those who are in Him today know it is the opposite reaction. The reason being we are no longer of the world as we once were, and it’s false love is opposite of the true love of God! (John 15:19,20) If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you. Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also.
