“ASTONISHMENT”

Astonishment:amazed,surprised,shocked,a great wonder,panic.

When we read in Deuteronomy of God’s Blessings we also read of his Curses.There are so many Blessings to the Believer,yet many curses should one choose not to do the Fathers will.This is why it is so important to have a reverence (Fear) of God.One of the curses is: “The Lord shall smite thee with madness,and blindness,and astonishment of heart”.(Deuteronomy 28:28).

Even though Jesus was viewed as a child born to earthly parents,people were not aware of the wonderful gift given to man for he grew strong in wisdom and Spirit and started to teach his Fathers will at a very young age. “And the child grew,and waxed strong in spirit,filled with wisdom: and the grace of God was upon him.And it came to pass, that after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, both hearing them, and asking questions.And all that heard him were astonished at his understanding and answers.And when they saw him, they were amazed: and his mother said unto him, Son, why hast thou thus dealt with us? behold, thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing.And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father’s business”.(Luke 2:40,46-49).

From the very beginning man was on earth he was told not to serve any other gods,for our God is a jealous God and wants his people to only look to him for he is the God above god’s. “Hath a nation changed their god’s , which are yet no god’s? but my people have changed their glory for that which does not profit.Be astonished, O ye heavens,at this,and be horribly afraid,be ye very desolate,saith the Lord”.(Jeremiah 2:11,12). “God standeth in the congregation of the mighty; he judgeth among the god’s”.

(Psalm 82:1).

How amazing it must of been when Jesus showed forth his healing to many and after being laughed to scorn took the hand of a damsel and she rose from death! “And they laughed him to scorn. But when he had put them all out, he taketh the father and the mother of the damsel, and them that were with him,and entereth in where the damsel was lying. And he took the damsel by the hand,and said unto her, Tal-i-tha cu-mi; which is, being interpreted, Damsel, I say unto thee arise. And straightway the damsel arose, and walked, for she was of the age of twelve years. And they were astonished with a great astonishment”.(Mark 5:40-42).

God’s way is so awesome imagine how it was when Peter was in prison and freed by an angel,he was so surprised he thought he saw a vision only to learn he was freed and went to the house of Mary the mother of John. “And the angel said unto him,Gird thyself, and bind on thy sandals. And so he did. And he saith unto him, Cast thy garment about thee,and follow me.And he went out,and followed him;and wist not that it was true which was done by the angel;but thought he saw a vision.And when Peter was come to himself, he said, Now I know of a surety, that the Lord hath sent his angel,and hath delivered me out of the hand of Herod, and from all the expectation of the people of the Jews. And they said unto her, Thou art mad. But she constantly affirmed that it was even so. Then said they,It is his angel.And Peter continued knocking: and when they had opened the door, and saw him,they were astonished”.(Acts 12:8,9,11,15,16).

We are told to “Let brotherly love continue.Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares”.(Hebrews 13:1,2).

For those who have seen the loving hand of God in their lives,by angels and miracles we know he truly is ASTONISHING!
