It is said we can go without food for a time,but water is a vital necessity for life lest we perish! This statement holds true if one refuses the Bread of Life and Living Water offered to us by Christ through the Holy Spirit. “I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live forever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world. Then Jesus said unto them, verily, verily, I say unto you, except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you. Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day”.(John 6:51,53,54).
We see that the living water that Jesus offers has the ability to cleanse and sanctify the Body Of Christ,which is the church. “Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything. Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, that he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish”.(Ephesians 5:24-27).
The bread of life first appears in the bible as manna sent to the Israelites. “Then said the Lord unto Moses, Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a certain rate every day, that I may prove them, whether they will walk in my law or no”.(Exodus 16:4).Even though the people rebelled against God he still opened the heavens to rain down manna,this bread in psalms was said to be Angel’s food. “Because they believed not in God, and trusted not in his salvation: Though he had commanded the clouds from above, and opened the doors of heaven, And had rained down manna upon them to eat, and had given them of the corn of heaven. Man did eat angel’s food: he sent them meat to the full”.(Psalms 78:22-25).
Praise God for sending his Son who is the Bread of Eternal Life,for those who daily read the word of God is Blessed. “Blessed is the man that walketh not in the councel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night”.(Psalm 1:1,2).
At the last supper Jesus said: “In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood ans cried, saying, If any man thirst, Let him come unto me, and drink. He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.(But this he spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified)”. (John 7:37-39).
