Did God ever ask his people to seek him once a week? or with all we encounter in every day life do we need him daily? So where did once a week service come from? We find the answer to these questions when we see that although the Pharisees and sadducees served in the temple which they learned from their forefathers as far back as Solomon that God never asked any man to build him a house for his name, for his Son Jesus would be the temple through the lineage of David. Even though Solomon built a temple and dedicated it the words of God are true.”Since the day that I brought forth my people Israel out of Egypt, I chose no city out of all the tribes of Israel to build an house, that my name might be therein; but I chose David to be over my people Israel. And it was in the heart of David my father to build an house for the name of the Lord God of Israel. And the Lord said unto David my father, whereas it was in thine heart to build an house unto my name, thou didst well that it was in thine heart”.(1 Kings 8:16-18).
“God Of The DAILY Church”
Although Solomon went on to build a temple and dedicate it to God, we find in the New Testament the old Covenant has passed and Jesus who comes from the lineage and household of David has built up the Spiritual house that God foretold would be “And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a Son, and shalt call his name JESUS. He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end”.(Luke 1:31-33) The house of Jacob spoken of here is the Spiritual house of Israel as we read that Jacob was renamed Israel: “And God said unto him, Thy name is Jacob: thy name shall not be called any more Jacob, but Israel shall be thy name and he called his name Israel”. We see when Josephs father Jacob dies that Jacob is refered to as Israel. “And Joseph fell upon his father’s face, and wept upon him, and kissed him. And Joseph commanded his servants the physicians to embalm his father: and the physicians embalmed Israel”.(Genesis 35:10…….50:1,2).
Through the Holy Spirit God adds to his church DAILY those who through repentance are being saved and we find this truth in the book of Acts. “Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls. And they continuing DAILY with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart, Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church DAILY such as should be saved”.(Acts 2:38,41,46,47).
The price that has been paid was by our Saviour at the cross who through the out pouring of his shed blood bought the true church. “Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellow-citizens with the saints, and of the household of God; And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone; In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord: In whom ye also are builded together together for an habitation of God through the Spirit”.(Ephesians 2:19-22).
We are told there are lords and gods many in the earth, yet the only true peace we can find for our souls is not in works of a building, but in the Body of Christ who is our Sabbath rest! “And he said unto them, The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath: Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the Sabbath”.(Mark 2:27,28). Jesus was at odds with the teachers of the temples always and he did not go to hear what they had to say, but DAILY he went and taught his Fathers will in them. “And he taught DAILY in the temple. But the chief priests and the scribes and the chief of the people sought to destroy him”.(Luke 19:47).
We are told to take up our cross DAILY and follow him! And the prayer he has given us says: Give us this day our DAILY bread. Christ is the bread of life for the Israelites had manna in the wilderness and are dead, but today we have the true manna which is Christ himself that gives eternal life! “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life. I am that bread of life. Your fathers did eat manna in the wilderness, and are dead. This is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die. I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world”.(John 6:47-51).
Man does not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God does man live. Weekly is way too long to wait for guidance and help we need in our DAILY lives, and we are provided with that help from above DAILY in the word!
For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.
(Galatians 1:10). The word of God will never deter one from the truth………………………………
Amen! Well explained. Our walk is daily and our bread is daily.
YES! The world teaches a weekly meeting is sufficient in serving God, yet daily we are in need of Him. God Bless and Keep You Always close.
